Parakeet Sitting on Perch in Cage - Pet Parakeets and Budgies

This is Lucky, my pet parakeet we found on our back patio.

Lucky - the porch parakeet

Lucky is quite the content, happy parakeet. She loves looking in her mirror and out the window, wtaching the humming birds at their feeder right outside. Lucky is a budgie, which is a breed of parakeet.

Lucky the Porch Parakeet

I love to tell the story of how we came about Lucky. We call her the “porch parakeet” because one day, she simply landed on the porch when we were sitting there by the kitchen window. The odds of us sitting there were pretty slim and catching her when we walked outside were even slimmer. Hence, our lucky parakeet!

It was actually quite cold and the temp was going to be down toward freezing. We knew we could not leave this poor bird outside in the cold. Our guess was that the parakeet flew away from someone’s home, so we were prepapred to give her to whomever had lost her. However, after weeks of watching the message boards, neighborhodd apps and Facebook, no one reported a lost parakeet.

I actually looked it up and apparently, these birds can fly great distances when they get out, even up to 100 miles. So, we had a new pat parakeet. She has been with us since 2023 and we love her. She is the happiest little parakeet. I thought she would be noisy,m but she is quite content to sing to herself and is not very loud mostly. While she has her moments, as all parakeets do, for the better part of the day she is happy to play with her toys and be a part of the family.

Lucky is the reason we decided to make a website about parakeets. When I went online to learn about parakeets, I found a lot of clinical information. But not a whole lot about what it is like to live with a parakeet. So, we decided to chronicle our journey online and help others who have a pet parakeet.

Jump in and learn more about parakeets, budgies and enjoy our journey with our new feathered friend.

Our Pet Parakeet, Lucky

This is lucky hanging around in her cage. She LOVES all of her colorful toys and beds. She enjoys spray showers, millet from our hands and looking at her reflection (her friend) in the mirror. On occassion, she visits her “friends” online and we play YouTube videos for her. She chats with the other birds, sings and has a good ole time. We call these her parakeet play dates.
